About the Bluenose

Launched in 1921 at Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, the Bluenose was designed to be both a rugged fishing schooner and a formidable racing vessel.

Over the following two decades, she became famous for her success in the International Fishermen’s Cup and for her record as a working fishing schooner — earning an enduring place in Canadian maritime history.

Since 1937, the Bluenose has appeared on the Canadian dime, becoming one of the country’s most recognizable symbols of maritime skill, resilience and achievement.

About W.J. Roué & the Sail Plan

The Bluenose was designed by Canadian naval architect William James Roué.

This framed reproduction is based on his original 1921 sail plan and has been developed in cooperation with Joan Roué, curator of the W.J. Roué Collection and granddaughter of W.J. Roué.

The result is both an attractive piece of wall art and a direct visual connection to the design of Canada’s legendary schooner.
